A HISTORY OF TIME: TANK
The Cartier: Tank 1917 watch, was the first square-face watch that came to market. Created by legendary watch maker Louis Cartier, this watch was often given strictly as a gift from the time of it’s creation until it was officially unveiled to the market in 1919. Forged during a time of great conflict, the watch design was directly inspired by the French tanks rolling across the Western Front during the First World War. Since that time, the Cartier Tank has become popular with celebrities and royalty alike, having been worn by Cary Grant, Catherine Deneuve and said to be one of the favorite pieces of jewelry in Princess Diana’s vast collection.
